CALLS FROM THE EARTH AND MESSANGERS IN THE SKY
Geology, Landscape, and Architecture in the Time of Schinkel and Today
In connection with the conferral of the Schinkel-Preis to Kurt W. Forster in Neuruppin an international conference will be held in Karl Friedrich Schinkel’s birthplace. The conference examines the geophysical and cultural conditions in the time around 1800 and explores their relevance for architecture and art in light of the nascent science of geology. What began to intrigue scientists and artists over two centuries ago has now reached proportions no one can ignore. Far from returning to an idyllic moment in Brandenburg, the conference aims to open a discussion of climate and its cultural ramifications, with Schinkel as an early catalyst.
Concept: Kurt W. Forster, Philip Ursprung, Lydia Xynogala
Supported by Department of Architecture, ETH Zürich and Akademie der Künste Berlin
10.00-12.00 Morning Session
Kurt W. Forster (Princeton University): Introduction
Tairan An (Princeton University): Reorienting the Erratic

Lydia Xynogala (ETH Zürich): Mineralizations
