Helene Romakin
Curriculum vitae

Helene Romakin is a cultural scientist and independent curator. After studying Cultural Management and Communication at the Zeppelin Universität, she completed her Masters in Cultural Studies from the Humboldt University in Berlin, Yonsei University in Seoul, and the Universidad Complutense in Madrid. From 2010 to 2017 she gained numerous professional experiences in contemporary art galleries and as curatorial assistant at the Künstlerhaus, Halle for Art & Media, in Graz. In 2018 she curated the “Study Room Jörg Schlick” at the Künstlerhaus, Halle for Art & Media, Graz and published the corresponding comprehensive monograph and the catalogue raisonné with Walther König. Together with Cora Hansen and Stefanie Hessler she is co-founder and curator of the Berlin-based non-profit project for contemporary art LET THERE BE_, where since 2016 she has been organizing exhibitions, performances and screenings with artists such as Dora García, Nicoline van Harskamp, Joey Holder, Jenna Sutela and Marie Voignier. Romakin writes regularly for the online magazine artfridge.de.

Currently she works as curatorial assistant and co-editor in the research project "Invitations," at the Archiv der Avantgarden Dresden.

In her doctoral thesis at the ETH Zurich, at the Chair of Art and Architectural History under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Philip Ursprung as well as Prof. Dr. Karen van den Berg from the Zeppelin University as 2nd supervisor, she deals with the topic “Anthropocene and Visual Culture – Material Strategies in Contemporary Art,” investigating the work by Lara Almarcegui and Pierre Huyghe as case studies.
