(FS24) Springs in Fall - Out of Methana

Seminar Week / 20th - 26th October / Methana, Greece

The seminar week brings us back to Greece, three years after our trip “Nisyros: New Beginnings.” Again, a thermal spring related to a volcano, is our entry point. Located on a peninsula on the eastern Peloponnese the thermal baths of Methana were a symbol of optimism and prosperity in the early 20th century. Their decay and uncertain future stand for the deeply ambivalent situation of Greece today. Guided by Lydia Xynogala we will discover the architecture of thermal bathing and the surrounding volcanic landscape. We will visit the Ancient Theater of Epidauros, excavations as Acrocorinth, the Corinth Canal, the Sousaki volcano with the view of the Elefsina refinery, the largest refinery in the country and the baths of Belle Helene on the way. Euripides’ Medea and Yanis Varoufakis’ Adults in the Room in our pockets we will discuss the past, present, and future.
