Lecture
Land Art
Lecture History of Art and Architecture VI (063-0314-11)
Organizer: Chair of Prof. Ursprung
Lecturers: Prof. Dr. Philip Ursprung
Time: Friday, 9.00h - 9.45h
Location: HIL E8
The large-scale interventions, which Robert Smithson, Michael Heizer, Walter De Maria, Nancy Holt and other artist made in the late 1960s and early 1970s in remote areas of the North American desert, have never stopped to fascinate both architects and artists. Not only did they transgress the traditional dimension and localization of works of art, but they also marked a shift of the boundaries between art, architecture, and urbanism. They have changed our concept of ¿nature¿ and influenced our ideas about size, scale, and temporality. What can we learn from Land Art today?
