According to David Harvey the early 1970s are marked by a crisis of representation. Architecture is at the core of a transformation which affects the perception of the relation between the individual body and its environment. Focusing on J. G. Ballard¿s novel "Crash" (1973), we will try to identify the transformation in the field of visual culture.

Knowledge of selected works of art and buildings of the early 1970s. Knowledge of selected theoretical texts.

According to David Harvey the early 1970s are marked by a crisis of representation. With the end of the gold standard in the United States, the end of the Bretton Woods agreement, and the beginning of globalized deregulation, the representation of value and thus any kind of representation enter a state of crisis. Architecture is at the very core of a transformation which radically affects the perception of the relation between the individual body and its environment. But how can the linkage between economy and architecture be described and localized? How can we escape the paradigm of Modernism-vs-Postmodernism Focusing on J. G. Ballard`s novel Crash (1973), we will try to identify the transformation in the field of architecture and propose an alternative model of interpretation.
